Selecting Threaded Fasteners
Jul 02, 2026
Mechanical Properties: Select the appropriate strength grade and anti-loosening method based on the static loads, dynamic loads (especially alternating loads and vibration), and shear forces acting on the connection point. Torque-preload calculations should be performed for critical load-bearing components.
Materials and Corrosion Protection: Common materials include low-carbon steel (galvanized or Dacromet-treated for rust prevention), stainless steel (A2-304, A4-316 for corrosion resistance), alloy steel (high strength), brass, and titanium alloys (aerospace applications). Consider potential galvanic corrosion arising from contact between dissimilar metals; use insulating washers if necessary.
Environmental Adaptability: High-temperature environments require heat-resistant steel or special coatings; chemical environments require resistance to acid and alkali corrosion; outdoor or marine environments require high-grade stainless steel or specialized coatings.
Installation and Maintenance: Consider installation space constraints when selecting suitable driving tools (manual, electric, pneumatic) and sockets. For applications requiring frequent disassembly, prioritize threads that are wear-resistant and resistant to stripping.
Industry standard systems-including ISO (International), ASME/SAE (USA), DIN (Germany), and GB (China)-ensure interchangeability and consistent quality.
